Ideally coded dichotomous models predict all positive and negative cases

Evidence

In dichotomous terms, Skocpol’s theory does quite well with respect to the proposition that state breakdown and peasant revolt are jointly sufficient for social revolution. It predicts accurately all the positive cases of social revolution: France, Russia 1917, and China. That is, all three of these cases have a dichotomous 1.00 in the column for “state breakdown∗peasant revolt” and a dichotomous 1.00 for social revolution. For the negative cases, the theory also correctly predicts a . (absence of social revolution) for England, Russia 1905, Germany, Prussia, and Japan. — Gary Goertz, Social Science Concepts, 1741
