Hyperpolitics collapses public and private without restoring organized movement politics.
Evidence
Hyperpolitics, a curious admixture of old and new, ended the separation of public and private that had reigned since the post-political 1990s, but it did so on unfamiliar terms. Twentieth-century political movements, at least in their superpoliticized mode (defined at one extreme by fascism), spelled an end to the public-private divide instituted in the bourgeois nineteenth century. Political life has not reverted to this precedent. Instead, the mood of contemporary politics is one of incessant yet uncoordinated excitation. Emotionally, it is related to the crisis of attention characteristic of the age of the smartphone. “Hyper” indicates both supersession and intensification, the elongation of a vowel that has already been vocalized but does not yet spell out a new word. — Anton Jäger, Hyperpolitics, 220

- DEEPTHINKING: The closing image — hyper(a) as an elongated vowel that doesn’t yet spell a new word — fuses philology, media theory, and political diagnosis into a genuinely dense formulation distinguishing hyperpolitics from fascist precedent.
