Hostile polemic against Islam remained separate from practical royal administration
Evidence
The Dominican and Franciscan friars whose activities Jaume encouraged in this legislation were preaching a hostile, polemical view of Islam and its prophet; but Jaume and his legislators feel no need to invoke such polemical views. There is little evidence of actual preaching to Muslim or Jewish subjects until 1263, in the aftermath of the Barcelona disputation between Dominican friar Pablo Cristiá and Rabbi Nachmanides (discussed in chapter 10). — John V.
