History as storying yields representational fields enabling identity-based agency

Evidence

In some languages, this fact that history is a storying is not as clear as it is in some other languages. French happens to be one I know. This alternate storying doesn’t give you an identity, if you think of identity as something intimately personal which lets you know who you are. It gives you a whole field of representation within which something like an “identity” can be represented as a basis for agency. — Donna Landry and Gerald MacLean, The Spivak Reader, 233
