Healthy living systems circulate collaborative intelligence that fails when beings see themselves as superior.

Evidence

Working together to revitalize the commons generates and draws from a kind of systemic wisdom or what Susan Griffin (1995) calls “collaborative intelligence.” As Gregory Bateson (2000) taught us, collaborative intelligence or wisdom circulates through the complex communication patterns in all healthy living systems. When it fails, or when we see ourselves as outside of or superior to it, the system fails, causing death. In contrast when it is allowed to flow freely, the system and the creatures within it flourish. — Rebecca A. Martusewicz, Jeff Edmundson, and John Lupinacci, EcoJustice Education, 1763
