Hanafi jurists disagreed fundamentally on how to punish homosexual acts
Evidence
There is considerable disagreement among Muslim scholars on the punishment of liwāṭ, i.e. homosexual activites. For contrasting views within only one school of thought, the Ḥanafīs, see ‘Alā1 al-Dīn al-Kāsānī (d. 1191), Badā’i’ al-Ṣand’i’ fī Tartīb al-Sharā’i’ (Cairo: al-Imām, 1972), IX, p. 4150 where he asserts that liwāṭ is different from zinā, adultery, and hence should have a different punishment. Cf. Ibn Nujaym (d. 1562), al-Baḥr al-Rā’iq (Cairo: al-Maṭba’a al-‘Ilmiyya, n.d.), pp. 17–18, where he says that homosexual acts should be treated as adultery. — Khaled Fahmy, All the Pasha_s Men_ Mehmed Ali, his…, 881
