Hall rejects the teleological determination latent in orthodox Marxism
Evidence
I suppose this is because, in my view, the orthodox structure of Marxism is very much teleological. And I think in part it is its Hegelian heritage that leads in that direction. Marx inverts and Althusser says he not only inverts but breaks with the Hegelian proposition. I don’t think that break is ever made. So in resisting that notion of determination as it is fixed in orthodox Marxist thought, I am also resisting therefore the notion of teleology. — Stuart Hall, Essential Essays, Volume 2, 978
