Habit is a genuine plasticity translating psychic and somatic into one another

Evidence

Habit, a process whereby the psychic and the somatic are translated into one another, is a genuine plasticity. It fashions the human by an incorporation (Verleiblichung) or rather an incarnation of the spiritual, similar to an hypotyposis. The ‘exemplary individuality’ which is man ‘sculpted’ by habit discloses, as if in a Greek statue, the unity of essence and accident. ‘Plastic individuality’ makes it possible to imagine the ‘conformity’ of singularity with the universal by means of a perspective totally different from that of pure and simple subordination. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 315
