Grammar is the alphabet of the spiritual realm and the content of logic
Evidence
The speculative is not only stored lexically. Syntax is equally fundamental, marking the consignment in language of the elementary forms of logic. In the Nuremberg Propädeutik, Hegel asserts that the logical categories are, in their immediate form, ‘the content of grammar’. These categories are ‘the singular letters, and even the vowels, of the spiritual realm, and it is with them that we begin to speak, then to read’. In a certain sense grammar makes up the alphabet of the spiritual realm. To the extent that it contains ‘the categories and unique creations of the intellect’, it inaugurates ‘our logical culture (Bildung)’. In consequence, for the philosopher, to work on the relation of subject and predicate amounts to an exploration of the temporal connections between the philosophical proposition and its grammatical origins. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 1145
