Globalization converted subsistence wellbeing into new mass poverty and social breakdown
Evidence
In just a few years, Ladakh was changed from an independent subsistence culture to a part of the global economy. While globalization certainly brought some gains, it also brought poverty—where everyone in the traditional culture had a comfortable home, the new culture created a large class of poor people living in shacks. Family and community ties have been broken, violence has increased, and even tension between ethnic groups has increased dramatically. — Rebecca A. Martusewicz, Jeff Edmundson, and John Lupinacci, EcoJustice Education, 1501
