Genuine rationality would treat the earth as a sustaining other rather than a resource

Evidence

In different frameworks from that of the master, frameworks which recognise dependency on the earth as sustaining other as the central fact of human life, it is clear that a rational culture oriented to survival would develop forms of rationality which encouraged mutually sustaining relationships between humans and the earth. In the sphere of human society, the best examples of such mutually sustaining relationships are found in care, friendship and love. In terms of these frameworks, the aggressive colonising and instrumentalising logic of the master rationality and the maximising logic of the Rational Economy emerge as profoundly unintelligent, even irrational, as ecological and survival strategies. — Val Plumwood, Feminism and the Mastery of Nature, 741
