Generosity in the tale works only as fast as one gives it away
Evidence
It was true. A handful of barley in the bowl became enough to feed the village; one coin became a purse. But the magic worked only as fast as she gave: when she filled the bowl to share, it overflowed; when, just once, she set a portion aside to hoard ‘for safety,’ the hoarded share turned to dust. She understood, and she never hoarded again. Through her bowl the whole valley was fed in hard years. — , A Year of World Stories, 11787
