Gap detection offers quick but shallow measures of temporal acuity
Evidence
Gap detection is an intuitive task, relatively easy to implement, and yields a single number to describe temporal acuity. Gap detection experiments can also be executed relatively quickly compared with more comprehensive methods of assessing temporal resolution because they generally yield a single number representing temporal resolution. Yet, gap detection experiments are fairly limited in their ability to broadly characterize temporal processing performance, as they only measure the ability to detect when a sound is interrupted. — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 1042
