Gandhi opposed forceful satyagraha by Untouchables, calling it devilish force

Evidence

That same month (December 1927), Gandhi spoke at the All-India Suppressed Classes Conference in Lahore, where he preached a gospel opposite to Ambedkar’s. He urged Untouchables to fight for their rights by “sweet persuasion and not by Satyagraha which becomes Duragraha when it is intended to give rude shock to the deep-rooted prejudices of the people”. Duragraha, he defined as “devilish force”, which was the polar opposite of Satyagraha, “soul force”. — Ambedkar, B R, Annihilation of Caste_ The Annotated…, 333
