Fuerista legal resistance delayed Morisco disarmament in Aragon by twelve years

Evidence

It might appear then that the Inquisition had won, and certainly the Aragonese failed to set limits to the powers of the Holy Office as they had hoped. However, if we look back at the issue of the disarmament of the Moriscos that had set in motion all this litigation in the first place, something had been achieved, although for a short time only. When in 1563 the disarmament of Valencian Moriscos came to be decreed, no attempt was made to include Aragon, where the opposition organized by the procurators had prevented the original decrees from being applied. It was not until 1575 that such a measure could be pushed through. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 584
