Frontier métissage was cultural rather than genetic
Evidence
The frontier landscape was dotted with small boer farm settlements and Khoi circulation, both seeking self-determination from central Dutch rule. They engaged each other and African groups further afield where selfinterest warranted it. Some mixed offspring of course followed, but métissage seems in retrospect to have been more largely cultural than leading to sexual generation. — David Theo Goldberg, The Threat of Race, 1363
