Frankfurt University’s Senate eagerly severed ties with the Institute
Evidence
As was the case throughout Germany, the University in Frankfurt did not stand by its ostracized and persecuted colleagues for a single moment. On the contrary. On 3 April the University Senate had already decided to apply to the Minister for Culture to have the
present associationloose though it wasbetween our university and the "Institute of Social Research" cancelled'. The rector, Wilhelm Gerloff, had held the post since October 1932, and had at the time of his appointment issued a warning againstchauvinist Nazism’. In May 1933, when he was replaced as rector earlier than scheduled by Ernst Krieck, a convinced Nazi, he did not prepare the usual report on his period of office. — Rolf Wiggershaus, The Frankfurt School, 521
