France’s large Muslim population results directly from its colonial empire

Evidence

France is a European nation, and a self-proclaimed liberal republic. It is also home to the largest Muslim population in Europe, with some informal estimates holding that the faith group comprises 8 to 10 percent of the country’s population. These French Muslims came from Senegal and Cameroon, Tunisia and Algeria, the former colonies of France that today remain bonded to their imperial mother. It is a bond that law scholar E. Tendayi Achiume dubs “migration as decolonization,” extending a right to once-colonized Muslim peoples to inhabit the land that decimated their native homes. France is indelibly Muslim, by its own imperial design, and the size of the Muslim population testifies to the scale of its global plunder and modern parasitism. — Khaled A.
