Forest disturbance regimes differ mainly in timing, spacing, and severity, not rate.
Evidence
The somewhat surprising conclusion is that different mesic forests probably do not show very great differences in their average rates of disturbance. Therefore, important differences among the disturbance regimes of different forests are more likely to occur in the distribution of tree deaths in time and space and in the severity of the disturbance. — S.
