Feudal lordship was the Moriscos’ last-resort security system against Christian authorities
Evidence
So in general feudal or quasi-feudal relationships provided Moriscos with their security system of last resort. As can be seen from the fate of Sancho de Cardona, the effectiveness of that system of protection, the willingness of nobles to look after “their” vassals or other clients, could antagonize the Inquisition in the sixteenth century (and even in the twentieth century it could still shock a pious Catholic like Boronat). — L.
