Fascist ideology reframes duty as heroic suffering stripped of economic content
Evidence
The social contradictions which lead to a restriction of the forces of production function in the same way as a regressive psychological development, a strengthening of the patricentric complex, as seen in the movements growing out of the struggle against Marxism. In place of a demand for the happiness which all human beings deserve, the ideological representatives of these movements once again put a sense of duty at the centre of their system of values. However, because of the economic situation, this sense of duty no longer has any economic content but is merely a demand for heroic action and suffering for the community. — Rolf Wiggershaus, The Frankfurt School, 570
