Fans revoked influencer legitimacy for pandemic privilege displays

Evidence

Like Kardashian, Davis wrote about the safety precautions she and her family had taken to allow them the privilege the post showed. (Of course, this privilege was still unevenly distributed—for Kardashian, a tropical island birthday party, for Davis, an expedition across the country with five children in a cramped RV.) Although there was support for Davis’s choice from some of her followers, especially because of her large family and small NYC apartment, many of the comments on the post were negative. Countless mentions of “UNFOLLOW” were braided through angrier messages, including one decrying Davis’s “dangerous, reckless behavior. Please don’t be so concerned about yourself that you forget you are more likely to cause harm to others.” And another: “It takes some egregiously insufferable influencer privilege to dramatically flounce from the epicenter during an international health emergency. Wouldn’t you say so @lovetaza. Naomi Davis should have been canceled long ago.” — Grant Bollmer, Katherine Guinness, The Influencer Factory, 364
