Expanding the interpretive horizon transforms the object of study itself.
Evidence
When we pass into the second phase, and find that the semantic horizon within which we grasp a cultural object has widened to include the social order, we will find that the very object of our analysis has itself been thereby dialectically transformed, and that it is no longer construed as an individual “text” or work in the narrow sense, but has been reconstituted in the form of -the great collective and class dis courses of which a text is little more than an individual parole or utter ance. Within this new horizon, then, our object of study will prove to be the ideologeme, that is, the smallest intelligible unit of the essentially antagonistic collective discourses of social classes. — Fredric Jameson, The Political Unconscious, 1738
