Exhibitions directly recruited new members into downtown art collectives
Evidence
Tambellini had his first and only one-person show, titled Black and White, at the Brata gallery in November 1962. The paintings were minimal but expressive circular forms—a mode continued by the young painter Ben Morea, who met Tambellini at the show and became part of his group, the Center. Other core members included sculptors Jackie Cassen and Ron Hahn, painter Peter Martinez, and photographer Don Snyder; the Center also had a friendly affiliation with the Umbra group of Black poets. — J.
