Executives escaped penalties while managers bore punishment in the antitrust conspiracy
Evidence
The sins of willful omission by chief executives resulted in neither personal fines nor long jail sentences. The electrical corporations paid medium-size fines, as did a number of their managerial officials. Those more deeply involved in the conspiracy received light prison sentences as well, although virtually all of the sentences were suspended. In corporate cultures where unlawful behavior is profitable and top executives are shielded from the consequences of their wrongdoing, the moral disengagement drama is repeated. — Albert Bandura, Moral Disengagement, 1404
