Equally spaced trees yield near-equal repetitive echoes ideal for notch suppression
Evidence
If the tree spacing is 4 meters, and the sound is traveling down the line of trees, the time interval between repetitions would have been about 23 milliseconds. (The reflected wave from one tree would lag 8 m behind the reflected wave from the next.) Note that the repetitions are expected to be very nearly equally loud if Rayleigh was standing at a substantial distance from the forest, which is ideal for notch suppression of frequencies. β Eric J.
