Environmental and Artaudian theater practices were transplanted into Black nationalist drama
Evidence
Moses and Richard Schechner, who had been involved with the FST, were colleagues, and Moses adapted some of Schechner’s ideas regarding environmental theater. He also brought in the Senegalese Dance Company to drill the cast and a linguist from the Olatunji Center for African Culture to teach them Yoruba. His direction of Slave Ship (for which he received an Obie) pushed beyond Dionysus in ’ and stood the Artaudian theater of Paradise Now on its head. — J. Hoberman, Everything Is Now, 1499
