Ending the seeing-gap reveals a more original mode of occurrence than subject-object distance
Evidence
For this knowledge does not emerge from a new formation of this subject–object gap; instead it arrives in the suspension of that gap. Hence that gap, emerging when the subject separates itself from all its determinations in order to ‘see them coming’ (les voir venir), is neither definitive nor fundamental. Consequently, the end of the gap obviously does not mean the closure of all perspective. On the contrary: this end reveals, in the process of becoming-fluid, a more fundamental mode of occurrence (structure de l’advenir plus originaire) than the rigid and fixed way in which the subject distanced itself from its own determinations, its own accidents. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 1081
Categorization
- XREF: Directly continues the ‘voir venir’ motif from earlier chapters — the gap opened to see determinations coming is provisional, not constitutive.
- QUESTION: If the gap in which one ‘sees the enemy coming’ is merely provisional and not fundamental, what institutional conditions make it persist as if fundamental? Feeds reader’s core question.
