Elite sexual abuse proved far more widespread than previously supposed

Evidence

If both Kipnis and Brown’s essays highlight real and pervasive psychopathologies on the left, their analyses need to be weighed against an acknowledgement that sexual abuse by those in politics and media is actually far more widespread than had been previously supposed. The obvious example here would be the disturbing and curious case of Jimmy Savile in the UK (which is echoed by the accusations that have recently circled around Bill Cosby in the US). Savile was a DJ turned light entertainer, best known in the 1970s for his work on the children’s wish-fulfilment television show Jim’ll Fix It. After his death, rumours that had dogged him for many years were confirmed — Savile had sexually abused thousands of victims, including many children. — Mark Fisher (edited by Darren Ambrose), K-Punk, 1939
