Egyptian tombs functioned as fully provisioned dwellings for navigating a dangerous afterlife
Evidence
For the journey to the afterlife, royalty and nobility were entombed in the magnificent pyramids we’re all familiar with, along with life-sized wooden boats for magical transport through the netherworld. Clothing, furniture, toiletries, food, and especially drink provided sustenance, and sanctified artifacts including statues of gods and goddesses and special jewelry provided protection. Sacred funerary texts called the Book of the Dead described the layout of the netherworld, the malevolent demons lurking there, and magical formulas for banishing them. — Sheldon Solomon, Jeff Greenberg, Tom Pyszczynski, The Worm at the Core, 346
