Egal would only leave SNC for election gains if an implicit deal existed
Evidence
By his request this morning, I received the honorable Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal. He asked me for advice: Some deputies, among them the head of the parliamentary group of SYL, outlined the possibility that he could be a candidate to the presidency of the assembly, without asking him clearly to leave the SNC and associate himself with the majority party. I responded to him that he should decline the offer but that he should make it clear that he is not ready, out of dignity, if the deal isn’t implicit, to leave his party at least under these circumstances, in the hope to become president of the assembly, and that he could consider that option once he was hired after the elections. He seemed enthusiastic about the advice. — Abdi Ismail Samatar, Africa’s First Democrats, 871
