Education and class capital determine which migrants land skilled work
Evidence
The inadequacy of education is another important variable that promotes overseas migration (Hoodbhoy 1998). Class background is an important factor in gaining access to migration and overseas work. For unskilled migrants, labor-intensive and temporary work in fields such as construction is often readily available. Obtaining coveted higher-skill and higher-status positions within the service economy, however, requires greater levels of social capital. For the professional classes overseas, getting a job often depends on access to the resources of education and the liquidity of capital assets of the middle classes. — Junaid Rana, Terrifying Muslims, 514
