Early 1960s independent films mixed white-light noise blasts, Ginsberg poetry, and folk songs
Evidence
Completed, Guns was appropriately strident. Mekas punctuated the action with blasts of white light and high frequency noise. Allen Ginsberg recited “Sunflower Sutra” and there were intermittent folk songs provided by Sara Wiley, Caither Wiley, and Tom Sankey (who a few years later composed the pioneer off-off-Broadway, anti-sellout folk rock musical The Golden Screw). — J.
