Disagreement within African philosophy signals maturity rather than failure.

Evidence

There are different communities of discourse that characterise the field of philosophy. Despite the seemingly protracted disagreements and controversies that define the Western tradition, philosophers in that tradition have not stopped philosophising, and neither have they contemplated laying down their tools until such time as they can agree. In fact, if they had attempted that, I have no doubt that the tools would still be down at this moment. It is in this light that African philosophy should see the multiplicity of views, positions, and approaches, not so much as a disruption but as a manifestation of a philosophy truly coming of age. — Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_…, 350
