Culture resists a single agreed definition despite many competing usages

Evidence

If the term role is ambiguous, culture is ambiguity run riot (Kroeber & Kluckhohn, 1952; Merelman, 1984). A simple solution would be to conceive of the term as the counterpart at the collective level to personality at the individual level. If personality is used as an omnibus term to encompass the various elements of an individual’s subjectivity, culture then would be used to encompass those elements at the collective level for societies, polities, and lesser entities. — John T. Jost and Jim Sidanius, Political Psychology, 1171
