Creole society’s shape depends more on symbolic prestige than on group numbers.
Evidence
The construction of Creole society responds not merely to the relative numbers of its various components but, most importantly, to the symbolic power at their disposal. This refers to the honor and prestige attached to its various segments and to those located outside its symbolic space. There is a constant struggle to define creolite and constant need to redefine its character in response to the challenges from those located outside of its identific boundaries. — David Theo Goldberg, John Solomos, A Companion to Racial and Ethnic Studies, 3256
