Countering white Christian nationalism requires a cross-ideological popular front.
Evidence
The only way to avert that outcome is to build a popular front in defense of American democracy, an alliance that extends from
#NeverTrumpRepublicans to Democratic Socialists, an alliance that includes religious conservatives as well as secular progressives. Building that alliance will not be easy. Christian leaders will have to convince at least some of their followers that white Christian nationalism is neither “Biblical” nor “patriotic,” but idolatrous and un-Christian. And progressive leaders will have to be willing to join hands with them. There are moments when political principles are more important than policy debates. This is one of them. — Philip S. Gorski and Samuel L. Perry, The Flag and the Cross, 60
