Corporate managerial templates were imported into think tanks in the early 1990s
Evidence
In the early 1990s, the evolution towards the professionalization and manage-rialization of think tanks started in earnest. Private models and templates were transferred to the nonprofit think tanks to ensure efficiency and accountability to funders. In November 1991, the Heritage Foundation organized a workshop on “Fundraising in the New Policy Environment,” where Atlas was represented. The workshop was “devoted to the importance of developing clear organizational missions, devising better methods of marketing products and services and refining donor relations.” — Dieter Plehwe, Quinn Slobodian & Philip Mirowski (eds.), Nine Lives of Neoliberalism, 577
