Corporate cooperation with the UNCTC eroded when research results displeased firms.
Evidence
During much of this early period, various corporate leaders (particularly from Europe) had a positive relationship with the CTC staff, as did the International Chamber of Commerce, which, like the major trade union federations, regularly sent delegates to meetings of the Commission. By the late 1970s, however, relations had cooled somewhat, and although meetings between corporate officials and members of the Center’s staff conducting research on their enterprises had occurred with some frequency during the CTC’s early years, a number of companies displeased with the results of these studies quit cooperating. A few went so far as to visit director Klaus Sahlgren, who listened to their complaints while defending the Center’s independence (Mousouris 2003). — Philip Mirowski & Dieter Plehwe (eds.), The Road from Mont Pèlerin, 1791
