Consumer loudspeakers at moderate prices rival professional monitors in sound quality.

Evidence

This has been a perspective on consumer audio. Sections 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 provide comparable data on some professional monitor loudspeakers from the same period. Their problems affect the ability of recording engineers to hear accurately what is being recorded, and to estimate how well their product will translate to the outside world. It cannot have been easy. Figure 2.7 shows a compilation of double-blind subjective sound quality ratings on a mixture of consumer and professional loudspeakers indicating that consumers were doing very well indeed, even at moderate prices (and moderate sound levels). β€” Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 1948
