Concert hall quality is codified into standardized subjective attribute vocabularies
Evidence
A considerable effort has been made to define the vocabulary to describe the main properties of concert halls (Barron, 1993; Beranek, 1996). Beranek (1996) suggests a list of 18 attributes based on his own extensive experience of listening in concert halls, which includes terms describing sound from both the audience and the stage. Lokki (2014) used descriptive sensory analysis with reproduced spatial sound of different concert halls, and ended up with a rather similar, though shorter, list. — Ville Pulkki, Matti Karjalainen, Communication Acoustics- An…, 2466
Categorization
- DEFINE: Introduces Beranek’s 18-attribute palette and Lokki’s sensory analysis as the vocabularies for describing hall acoustics.
