Computer models of vowel perception can predict cochlear implant user outcomes

Evidence

Recently a relatively simple model of vowel identification has been used to predict confusion matrices of CI users. Models of sound perception are not only beneficial in the development of sound coding strategies to prototype the strategy and create hypotheses, but also to give more robustness to the results obtained from an evaluation in CI users. Evaluations with CI users are time consuming and results typically show large variability. — Dijk, Pim van, Physiology, Psychoacoustics and…, 1830
