Closing loopholes would help most white Americans too since half are below median wealth

Evidence

I believe a fully progressive taxation system—with no exclusions and a single living allowance deduction, along with a single wealth credit that I’ll describe later in this chapter—would not only intentionally create a more level playing field for black American taxpayers but also benefit the majority of American taxpayers of all races, just like the Revenue Act of 1913 did. The very wealthiest Americans—the ones who are more likely to itemize, claim the mortgage interest deduction on both their first and second homes, have more income from stocks than wages, and receive wealth-building family financial transfers—may be predominantly white, but that doesn’t mean their experience reflects that of the majority of white Americans. The median wealth of white households is $171,000, which means half of white America have less than that. Reducing and eliminating the tax loopholes by which the wealthiest Americans protect and increase their wealth means a reduced federal deficit and a better progressive tax rate for the majority of working Americans. — Dorothy A.
