CI electrode pairing experiments begin by loudness-balancing across the two ears.
Evidence
The experiment consisted of three psychophysical pretests, accompanied by three IEP methods. Pretest 1 was to determine the participant’s maximum comfortable level (MCL) and the hearing threshold (HL) of the reference electrode (For more details about the stimuli, please refer to the last paragraph of section 2 ). From these two values the dynamic range (DR) was obtained. In the second pretest the interaural loudness-balanced level for each electrode pair was determined. The presentation level of the reference CI electrode was fixed at 60 % of DR, while the presentation level of the contralateral probe CI electrode was adapted according to the participant’s response. — Dijk, Pim van, Physiology, Psychoacoustics and…, 1459
