Christian priests differed from Muslim scholars in how they set penance for sin

Evidence

It happened to me in Ja´en that in order to put this to the test, I tried three Christian priests in the same day, and for the same sin, and each one of them gave me his own kind of absolution. Muslim scholars give out penances that are set to the measure of the sin, according to how serious it was, and if anybody commits the same sin twice, they do not set a penance, but the sinner himself sets it, with good works secured by repentance. — L.
