China holds over a million Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang concentration camps
Evidence
In August 2018, a United Nations human rights panel reported that nearly 1.1 million Uyghur Muslims were being held in concentration camps in Xinjiang. Gay McDougall, who sits on the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, claimed that the imprisoned population could be as high as 2 million. The number could be far larger than those estimates. According to Abduresid Emin, secretary general of the International Union of East Turkistan Organizations, with whom I worked closely, the number of individuals locked away in China’s concentration camps could be as high as 5 million. — Khaled A.
