CBT arrays achieve constant beamwidth using only level shifts, not complex frequency-dependent processing.
Evidence
Keele also showed how CBT arrays can also be implemented in flat-panel or straight-line array configurations using signal delays and Legendre function shading of the driver amplitudes. CBT arrays do not require any signal processing except for simple frequency-independent shifts in loudspeaker level. This is in contrast with conventional constant-beamwidth flatpanel and straight-line designs, which require strongly frequency-dependent signal processing. — David M. - XREF: Relates to the Fourier/convolution-toolbox approach to acoustics already built in earlier chapters of this very book; also connects to how directivity and beamwidth tradeoffs recur across array-horn theory.
