Broadway ran Lorraine Hansberry’s Village-critique play for only 101 performances
Evidence
Her second play, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window—a critique of Village bohemians that included characters loosely based on Art D’Lugoff, Jonas Mekas, and Edward Albee—was currently on Broadway. At one point the stand-up comedian Mort Sahl was to play the title character. The show ran 101 performances and closed the night its author died, age thirty-four. — J.
