Brecht’s didactic theatre resists being co-opted into a Postmodernist canon.

Evidence

There have, in fact, been some attempts to claim Brecht for Postmodernism, but these are highly implausible. Brecht’s emphasis on epic theatre as ‘theatre for instruction’, directed towards ‘an audience of the scientific age’, concerned to encourage its consumers to reflect on, and develop a rational, critical understanding of the world, is so plainly intended to achieve a theatre of enlightenment that it is hard to imagine his plays fitting easily into a Postmodernist canon. — Alex Callinicos, Against Postmodernism, 122
