Border theory can generalize beyond the US-Mexico boundary to other borders
Evidence
Undoubtedly, we must retain the specificities that Chicana, Chicano, and Mexican bodies encounter when they migrate and cross the US-Mexico border, but forging other border discourses concerning alienization, etherization, exploitation, and oppression would enrich Border Studies. At stake here is the construction of new meanings of border identities; the critical engagement of Chicana and Chicano in relation to “Latina,” “Latino,” and “black”; and the insertion and alteration of different interpretations of the borderlands that address associations between larger cultures. — David Theo Goldberg, John Solomos, A Companion to Racial and Ethnic Studies, 2469 (
